Today, the weather was mercifully much cooler. Breakfast involved homemade estate currant jam on bread – delicious. Classes went well, after which my friends and I decided to try out the nearby Uighur/Kyrgyz restaurant, Cafe Faiza which has been recommended by multiple local people… but it was crowded and we were hungry. We instead found Baan Baan Thai Cafe, which was located on a strange little side alley behind a kindergarten. The whole yard was walled off and contained both Baan Baan as well as Save the Ales Brewery, the first craft brewery in the whole of Kyrgyzstan (and a place I want to visit based purely on the pun in the name). The food at the Thai place was good, but I continue to be severely disappointed by the spice level in even non-Kyrgyz foods around the city. Also, the drinks menu contained this gem:

  1. A guys who works for me carries around his own vegemite. Looks like you need a little siracha(?) bottle and a packet of ground cayenne. Also, I’ve always heard that Dr Paper is waaay better than Mr Pab.

    I love the brew pub name. That is a fantastic pun. Is it in Russian and that’s the translation?
